website_pictures_002Nicholas takes students from beginner to intermediate-advanced levels, from pre-school years and up.  He uses a combination of Suzuki and traditional methods, as well as the structured achievement levels of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.  Students are encouraged to discover both the joy of music-making through their own unique musical voice, and the discipline of learning an art form through commitment and regular practice.  Fundamental keyboard skills, sight-reading, improvisation and aural skills are taught.  These skills are particularly useful for singers and instrumentalists who may be considering a career in music.  The ABRSM curriculum provides a good structure for motivation towards high levels of achievement, and the development of all-round musical skills and competence.  The emphasis is on classical technique and repertoire, but students are encouraged to learn jazz and popular styles of playing as well.  Opportunities for performance and for piano ensembles are provided through the studio.
